Pearce Steps Down from SHC Men's, Women's Soccer Post

Spring Hill College men's and women's soccer head coach Adam Pearce has resigned his post to take an assistant men's soccer coach position in his home state at Oregon State University, Vice President for Student Affairs/Interim Director of Athletics Joe Deighton announced on Friday. Pearce leaves after three seasons leading both the men's and women's programs at Spring Hill.

Under Pearce, the Badgers tallied a 12-34-6 record in men's soccer and a 26-22-7 record in women's soccer. In 2007 and 2008, the Lady Badgers posted their first consecutive winning seasons in program history, finishing second in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) regular season in '07. Pearce finishes his tenure on The Hill with the most career wins in SHC women's history.

Pearce had three men and seven women named All-GCAC in his time at SHC.

Soccer tourney called a success

After weeks and days and hours of work everyone was ready to wrap up the first United States Youth Soccer Region I tournament to be held in West Virginia.

Everyone, that is, except the players in the final game tournament.

The players in the boys U19 final between the FC Delco Blast (Eastern Pennsylvania) and the Baltimore Casa Mia Bays (Maryland) decided to hang around a little longer.

The teams played to a 1-1 tie through regulation and overtime before the Bays finally came away with the win in a shootout.

"Everyone was there waiting to tear down the field," said Dave Laraba, Executive Director of the West Virginia Soccer Association. "There was a ring of golf carts surrounding the field."

In a game of interest to local fans, the Empire United squad (Syracuse, N.Y.) won the U12 girls 8 v.

Frank Arnesen is Chelsea's new sporting director

Chelsea promoted Frank Arnesen to the role of sporting director with immediate effect, the Premier League soccer club said. Captain John Terry continues to be linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge. Arnesen, who will maintain his work with the reserve and youth teams, will also now take on responsibilities relating to the coordination of first-team activity and supporting the manager, Chelsea said today on its Web site. Chelsea said it needed increased senior support for new coach Carlo Ancelotti, who joined the club last month from AC Milan. The west London team had been looking for a manager after Guus Hiddink's interim tenure ended in May. Ancelotti told reporters on July 6 that he wanted England center-back Terry to spearhead Chelsea's attempt to win Europe's elite Champions League for a first time.
