Local soccer: Wellfleet earns first point

Breakers a 1-1 tie with Barnstable FC in Cape Cod Amateur Soccer League action last night, earning the Breakers their first point of the season.

Wellfleet is 0-5-1 while Barnstable is 2-5-1.

Barnstable took a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute when Brian Reske scored on a Dan Luczkow assist.

Dan Kimbal made several saves to keep the Breakers in the game while Dom Persuitte was sharp in net for Barnstable.


Sandwich Knights 3, Brewster Ice 1SANDWICH — Peter Alveranga scored two goals to lead the Sandwich Knights over the Brewster Ice.

Alveranga gave Sandwich (4-2-1) a 1-0 lead at the half with Eric Gomes earning the assist.

Gomes made it 2-0 on an assist from Mike Bridges, before Alveranga's second goal off an assist from Dan Hixon made it 3-0.


Three squads undefeated in adult soccer league

Physio in the Valley, Renfrew Ladies #2 and the Marlin Travel Flyers are undefeated to lead their divisions in the Upper Ottawa Valley Adult Soccer League.

The league currently boasts 17 men's and ladies' teams from Pembroke, Petawawa, Renfrew and Deep River.

Physio in the Valley leads the ladies division with a 7-0 record for 21 points.

They've scored 33 goals while allowing only eight by their opponents.

The Murphy Ford Mustangs are next in the standings with a 6-1 record good for 18 points.

Their goals for-goals against record is a plus 28 with 38 for and 10 against.

The Midnight Snipers are 5-1-1 with 16 points.

They've netted 19 goals and allowed 14.

Lance's Kickers are fourth in the ladies' division with six points with a 2-5 record.


Amateur Soccer: Conrad, Storm blank Tide

Storm scored two goals in the first half and one in the second to blast past the Falmouth Tide last night, 3-0, in the Cape Cod Amateur Soccer League.

Asa Nadeau and Andrew Sterns netted the first-half markers, and Tyler Savonen scored the game's third tally 10 minutes into the second half.

Brett Conrad made seven saves in net for the shutout, and Andrew Czuchra and Kyle Sye were outstanding at midfield for the Storm.


D-Y Celtic 5, Bass Strikers 1YARMOUTH — Lucas Miranda netted two goals, and Roberto Miai, Jack Sherman and Paul Marchand each scored once to lead the Celtic past the Strikers yesterday.

Both of Miranda's goals and Miai's tally came in the first half, giving D-Y a 3-1 advantage at the game's midpoint, a lead it wouldn't relinquish.Hunter Wolfe was strong on defense.
